Heart Shape Diamonds

heart Diamond

The "Heart-Shaped Modified Brilliant," is a heart-shaped modification of the traditional round brilliant configuration.

As a rule, the heart shape is designed to have 59 facets. Nevertheless it also can be cut with different numbers of pavilion mains of 6, 7, 8 facets.

There is no preferred length to width ratio of the heart. As a rule, fat hearts’ ratio varies between 0.85 and 1.00. Skinny hearts are usually greater than 1.00. Heart-shaped diamonds’ ratio is the matter of taste and depends on your personal preferences.

As with all fancy shaped stones, the shape depends mostly on the characteristics of the rough diamond crystal. Heart is an ideal shape when a cutter wants to remove a noticeable flaw in a particular location, and by this to retain the maximum weight (inclusion is placed in the heart's cleft).

Most heart-shaped brilliants are bought as single diamonds, mostly for solitaire necklaces in sizes of a half carat or more. Solitaire rings and matched pairs for stud earrings and side stones for diamond rings are also popular.

Heart-shaped diamonds become very popular with buyers for around Valentine's Day.

Diamond Prices

Diamonds pricing is a complex and elaborate process that requires the consideration of many factors. Diamond prices are mainly determined by:

  • - The cost of mining and sorting the rough diamond.
  • - The cost of cutting the loose diamond.

However there are other costs necessary to manufacture the rough stone into a ready diamond. A very important stone may be certified and graded by an independent company in accordance with the ‘Four Cs’: carat, color, clarity, and cut.
